The Ethos Difference

Ethos Recovery is a long-term (12-18 months) structured recovery community for men located in Los Angeles, CA. We are not a treatment center but rather a social model that emphasizes changing attitudes, values, beliefs, and behaviors through peer engagement.

We believe that recovery is a long-term process that requires time, dedication, and ongoing support. We succeed where treatment centers typically fail because they either shelter their clients from the realities of society or they re-integrate them too quickly, causing undue stress and anxiety.

We primarily focus on programming that is designed to promote long-term recovery rather than the luxurious amenities that can be found at many other treatment centers. While amenities may be important to some, at Ethos, the belief is that the quality of programming and community engagement is what truly makes the difference in achieving lasting recovery.

The decision to focus on programming over amenities is a deliberate one since an inappropriate emphasis on luxurious amenities can actually be detrimental to the recovery process. Younger clients who attend treatment centers with more luxurious amenities may actually have a higher risk of relapse than those who attended centers with more modest amenities. Luxurious environments for those requiring a dramatic shift in daily living may reinforce the same behaviors and lifestyle that led to addiction in the first place.

At Ethos, the focus on programming includes community engagement, peer support, adventure therapy, and other holistic approaches that have been shown to be effective in promoting long-term recovery. While amenities are important, they are not the primary focus of the program. By focusing on programming, Ethos is able to provide clients with the tools and resources they need to make real and lasting changes in their lives, rather than simply providing a temporary escape from the stresses and pressures of the outside world.
